Lottery Plan Dropped
Tuesday December 31st 2013

GOVERNOR TOM CORBETT ANNOUNCED THAT THE PLAN TO PRIVATIZE THE STATE'S LOTTERY.. HAS BEEN DROPPED.  U-K BASED CAMELOT GLOBAL SERVICES HAD PROMISED TO GENERATE UP TO 5 BILLION DOLLARS MORE IN PROFITS OVER THE NEXT 20 YEARS THAN WHAT THE LOTTERY CURRENTLYMAKES.  GOVERNOR CORBETT PREVIOUSLY SAID THIS AGREEMENT WAS NECESSARY TO ENSURE THAT THERE'S FUNDING FOR OLDER PENNSYLVANIANS.  BUT NOW HIS ADMINISTRATION WILL LOOK FOR OTHER WAYS TO INCREASE REVENUE.  THE PENNSYLVANIA LOTTERY IS THE ONLY U-S LOTTERY THAT EXCLUSIVELY DESIGNATES ALL PROCEEDS FOR PROGRAMS THAT BENEFIT OLDER PENNSYLVANIANS.  LAST YEAR, THE LOTTERY REPORTED A RECORD SALE OF $3.69 BILLION DOLLARS.

Tolls Increase
Tuesday December 31st 2013

IF YOU'RE TRAVELING THE TURNPIKE THIS WEEKEND, YOU MIGHT HAVE TO SHELL OUT A FEW MORE DOLLARS.  STARTING JANUARY 5TH, TOLLS WILL INCREASE 12 PERCENT FOR CASH PAYERS AND 2 PERCENT FOR THOSE USING EZ-PASS, CREATING A SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE TWO OPTIONS.  TO EASE THE IMPACTS OF THE RISING RATES, TRAVELERS MAY WISH TO SWITCH TO EZ-PASS. AS OF SUNDAY THE RATE DIFFERENCE WILL BE 35% FROM EZ-PASS TO CASH.  THE TOLL INCREASE IS PART OF THE TURNPIKE COMMISSION'S CAPITAL PLAN TO REBUILD THE 550 MILE STRETCH AND WIDEN IT TO 6 LANES INSTEAD OF 4.  IT IS NECESSARY ALSO TO HELP EASE CONGESTION AS WELL AS TO IMPROVE AN AGING ROAD SYSTEM WHICH IS OVER 70 YEARS OLD.  DRIVERS SHOULD SEE A TOLL INCREASE EACH YEAR IN THE FORSEEABLE FUTURE.
